This recipe is a Sutton-exclusive. A very simple, vegan pizza sauce that is sweet, rich, and contains no preservatives or junk.
INGREDIENTS:
- 1 Tbl Ghee
- 2 packages of cherry tomatoes
- 1/2 white onion
- Minced garlic (3+ cloves-worth)
- Dash of salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, red cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, oregano, and basil
- 1-2 Tbl maple syrup
DIRECTIONS:
- In a large, deep fry-pan, melt 1 Tbl ghee at medium-high heat
- Sautee onions for about 5 minutes or until translucent
- Add garlic and saute for about 1 minute
- Add cherry tomatoes to the pan and add spices and maple syrup
- Cover and cook for about 15 minutes (or until the tomatoes blister well)
- Pour sauce into a heat-safe container
CHEF'S NOTES:
- To make a killer pizza, top off a cauliflower pizza crust with this sauce. Add Italian sausage, cheese, and fresh basil.
- If you like a little spicier pizza sauce, add more cayenne or red pepper flakes. You can also go crazy and add some ground ghost peppers!
